Creation of Adam

The outstretched hand of God
reaching out to Adam in The
Creation of Adam by
Renaissance master
Michelangelo (1475 - 1564)
is expressively depicted
with an air of suspenseful
anticipation. Portraying the
moment preceding their
connection, the legendary
gesture is part of one of
nine scenes from Genesis
which Michelangelo painted
on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel. A genius
versed in the arts, sciences
and anatomy, Michelangelo
had a profound influence on
the advancement of Western
art.
"See, I am sending an angel ahead of you
to guard you along the way
and to bring you to the place I have prepared."
Ex. 23:20

He
Still Walks Here
"
Hello,
my name is Bill Stephens. I
was born in the Bavarian
Alps, and as a young boy, I
was inspired by the art in
the surrounding churches,
museums, and castles of
Bavaria.
I grew to have a love of art
early on, but as life would
have it, I ended up doing
everything but art in the
many decades that followed.
I only produced a couple of
works in the first 50 years
of my life.
It wasn't until all that I
had worked for suddenly
evaporated, and my life
"ended" in the most dramatic
way, that I decided to get
creative. Adversity is often
what is needed to challenge
us to take a different road.
This new road also resulted
in a wonderful marriage
which was very welcomed.
What an artist creates
always reflects where his
heart truly is, and has
been. Any work is no greater
in depth than that which
resides within the artist.
An artist exposes whatever
value is within when they
commit to a work. The only
limits to art rest within
the individual. Artists
should strive to reach far
beyond what they "think"
they can do. As with
relationships, art is a
journey of the heart which
demands commitment to depth.
I have personally sought to
stay true to the "fidelity"
of what Christ has
magnificently created. Since
almost all imagery is
borrowed from the realism of
creation, I believe that man
is never free to cheapen
what Christ has imagined,
but ought to try to
compliment what has been
made, in keeping with being
made in His Image. I have
come to credit my own
talents to Christ's
thoughtfulness as well. "

saw only
beauty. A leading
Romantic artist who
originally trained to be a

Michelangelo, whose style he
imitated throughout his
career.
An artist whose
concepts were ahead of his
time, Fuseli powerfully
influenced the
